❄️ Winter Weather & Pet Care: What to Expect ❄️

Dufferin County winters can be unpredictable! When snow, ice, or severe conditions hit, keeping our team and your pets safe always comes first.  We want to be transparent about how we handle winter weather, so you know what to expect and how we can work together to make sure every pet is well cared for.

👀 Monitoring Weather Conditions

We closely monitor weather forecasts and road conditions, especially in the winter months. When conditions appear unsafe, we do our best to notify clients as early as possible.  Because weather and road safety can change quickly, some adjustments may be made with short notice.

🥶 When Winter Weather May Affect Services

Services may be adjusted or or delayed in cases of:

  • Snow, ice, or sleet

  • Extreme weather advisories

  • Road conditions that are unsafe or undrivable

🌧  Rain vs. Winter Weather

Rain alone does not typically result in cancellations. Snow and ice are handled differently due to road safety concerns.

If conditions are borderline, we may adjust appointment timing or service length and will remain in close communication with you.

🚗 Safety Comes First

Our team spends much of the day driving between homes on scheduled routes. If roads become unsafe due to snow, ice, sleet, or other hazardous conditions, services may need to be delayed or adjusted to protect our team.

We will always try to reach pets when roads are safe!

💸 Cancellation Fees

There are no cancellation fees for winter weather-related cancellations. If services need to be adjusted or cancelled due to unsafe roads, you will never be penalized.

💊Pet Sitting & Pets Requiring Medication

Pets who rely on us for vacation care or medication are always treated as high-priority, especially during winter weather.

When roads are safe, we prioritize reaching pet sitting clients and pets that require medication. If conditions become unsafe, we will not put our team at risk—but we also won’t leave your pet without support.

Pets requiring medication and pet sitting clients are always prioritized. We will ensure care is provided either by our team when it is safe to travel or by helping coordinate care with your inclement weather emergency contact if conditions prevent us from reaching your home.

Because of this, all clients—especially those with pets requiring medication—must maintain at least one emergency contact!

👥 Emergency Contacts (Required)

All clients—especially those with pets requiring medication—must have at least one emergency contact listed in their profile.

We strongly recommend that your emergency contact be a neighbor or someone within walking distance, as nearby help is often the safest and fastest option during severe weather.

If roads become unsafe, we will actively reach out to your listed emergency contact to help coordinate care. And we will always keep you in the loop!

🏠 If You’re Home During Unsafe Weather

If winter weather makes roads unsafe and you are home with your pet, we strongly encourage you to cancel your scheduled appointment for the day.

There are no weather-related cancellation fees, and canceling helps us:

  • Reduce unnecessary travel

  • Prioritize pets requiring medication or vacation care

  • Focus on clients without alternative care options

📧 Communication is Key

Clear communication and updated emergency contacts help us provide safe, reliable care during winter weather. We will:

  • Notify you if delays are expected

  • Inform you if non-essential visits (such as midday walks when you’re home) are canceled

  • Share updates if conditions change

You can always reach out through your client portal if you need anything.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during winter weather. We truly appreciate your flexibility and support as we navigate these unpredictable winters together!
