Frequently asked questions

We’ve rounded up answers to your most frequently asked questions below. For everything else, our client policies have you covered.

  • What areas do you service?
We’re located in and serve Orangeville, Ontario.
  • How does your software work?
We use a system called Time To Pet, which makes communication and scheduling a breeze for you! You’ll get your own client portal where you can request services, see upcoming scheduled visits, update your information, message us and pay invoices, either through the website or app. During each visit, your sitter checks in and out through the app, so you'll get real-time updates, photos and a visit summary. It keeps everything organized and transparent—you’ll always know what's happening with your pet!
  • Do you charge more on holidays?
There is a holiday surcharge of $15/drop-in or walk. Holidays include: Easter weekend (Friday to Monday); Canada Day; Labour Day; Family Day; Thanksgiving Sunday/Monday; Christmas Eve; Christmas Day; Boxing Day; New Year’s Eve; and New Year’s Day.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
Regular weekly or daily dog walks or drop-ins require a cancellation before 5 p.m. the day prior to service or 50% of the service charge will be billed. Cancellations received after 8 a.m. the day of service will be billed at the full rate, and if a pet professional arrives to a visit but is not needed anymore, you will be billed 100% of the service charge.
  • Will it be the same sitter/walker each time?
At Biota Pet Care, we work as a team! Our team-based approach guarantees your pet receives consistent, loving care, even if one sitter is unavailable. While you’ll typically have one or two primary sitters, a small, trusted team provides dependable backup for vacations, emergencies or last-minute needs. Every team member undergoes extensive training and is guided to follow your pet’s exact routine. Detailed notes and real-time updates ensure a seamless experience every time. Plus, your pet is always introduced to new team members by a primary sitter, so no one meets your pet without a proper introduction and familiarization.
  • Do you have any collar or leash requirements?
Collars: We use positive reinforcement and fear-free methods, and will not use any device that may cause fear, harm or discomfort to your pet, including shock, prong or choke collars. To use our services, you must provide another collar option, such as a martingale collar or harness (freedom no-pull harness recommended). We carry a few sizes of martingale collars and harnesses; however, it is not guaranteed they will fit your dog, so it is best you purchase one that is fitted to your dog. Leashes: Safety is our top priority, which is why we won’t use retractable leashes, known to cause harm to both dog and human, malfunction over time and even break more easily. We use Canadian-made Loopit safety leashes that connect to the dog’s collar or harness, with a slip-lead as a back-up, to prevent any escapes.
  • Can you guarantee a specific time you’ll drop by?
We operate within specific time blocks to allow for unforeseen delays like traffic or emergencies (while still maintaining your pet’s daily routine). If you request a specific time, we will try our best to service as close to that time as possible.
  • Will you be keeping my house key?
We use a keyless entry system, which means we do not keep your keys. Our clients are required to supply either a secure lockbox on property, or a coded door or garage to help our sitters gain entrance. We recommend two methods of entry are available in case of power outages or dead batteries. Hide-a-keys are also acceptable. If your door requires a key, Biota requires you set up a lockbox (we have some available to buy) in a secure location on your property. Our sitters will securely carry the key for the duration of our visit, and return it safely to the lockbox upon exiting the home and finishing the visit.
  • Can you administer medications?
Yes, we can! You’ll need to provide directions in your client portal. You are responsible for notifying your veterinarian that we will be administering this medication in your absence.
  • Do you offer overnights or boarding?
We don’t currently offer overnights or boarding. We work within the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. so can only take on vacation clients that need one or two visits per day (such as cats, fish, pocket pets, reptiles, etc.). Our dog clients love our mid-day dog walking services! If you need vacation care for dogs, we’d recommend one of the following professionals: Michelle’s Pawfect Pet Sitting and Grooming (647-632-6230) Puppy Breaks (519-278-6929) For boarding needs, call Kellsk9s (705-331-7839).
